The Ministry of Women, Community and Social Development (MWCSD) officially opened its newly reconstructed community centre in Salelologa, Savaii today (October 25, 2016), with majority of funding provided by Japan.
Since July 2015, a grant of up to USD $104,120 equivalent to SAT $266,974 was signed between the former Minister of Women, Community and Social Development, Hon. Tolofuaivalelei Falemoe Leiataua and Ambassador of Japan to Samoa, H.E. Tuimaugaoalii Kazumasa Shibuta.
The grant is provided under the Japan’s Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP).
The Salelologa community centre has deteriorated over the years and was initially built with Japanese aid in the early 90s,it has then been a venue for numerous community programmes in Savaii.

Japan has been funding such projects since 1991 with the aim to develop and improve the communities of Samoa, which has benefitted numerous organisations and schools in the country with more than 150 projects have been successfully completed under the Japan’s Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects.
