(M.P.M.C. Press Secretary); Samoa will host the 2019 Pacific Games.
This was confirmed late this afternoon by the President of the Samoa Association of Sports and National Olympic Games Committee, (SASNOC) Fepuleai Patrick Fepuleai.
Initially Tahiti and Guam were in the running for the hosting rights. However with the Tahiti Olympic Games Committee without their government packing, their bid lacked leverage.
And it was left to Guam and Samoa.
But with the Government’s support which included financial packing of $20 million tala, the writing was on the wall that Samoa’s bid proposal had a fighting chance.
While awaiting a decision from the Pacific Games Council, Samoa was a step ahead with its preparations to return the games to Samoa with, an Executive Committee to prepare the country for the 2019 regional games was appointed with Prime Minister Tuilaepa Lupesoliai Sailele Malielegaoi as Chairman while Finance Minister Sili Epa Tuioti and Sports Minister Loau Solamalemalo Keneti are the co-chairman.
The officials include representatives from the SASNOC and the Ministry of Education.
This would be the third time that Samoa has hosted the Pacific Games. The first in 1983 and again in 2007.
