Vector Arena confirmed as venue for Joseph Parker’s world title fight

Joseph Parker’s WBO heavyweight title fight against Andy Ruiz Jr will be held at Auckland’s Vector Arena, it has been confirmed.
Duco chief executive Martin Snedden told media it has ‘been a volatile last few weeks’ getting the fight confirmed for Auckland. “This is a historic moment for New Zealand
sport,” he said.
“Could even be more historic on the night if Joseph goes onto win the fight. “It’s been a rocky, volatile last few weeks, for us today it’s about somewhat putting a line in the sand what happened has happened . We’ve reached the point today to be confident enough to say this title fight is happening in Auckland.”
“There is a hell of a lot to do but we have confident we have what it takes to do something really special.”
Snedden said the fight will cost more than double what it paid to host the fight against Carlos Takam earlier this year, which cost around $2.2m. Corporate Tables have gone on sale
today while general ticket sales will be available on Thursday at Ticketmaster with prices starting from $99.
The chances of the bout being held in New Zealand appeared to fade when Duco withdrew its bid for the government to part-fund the event. However, ESPN boxing reporter Dan Rafael
reported last week that Ruiz’s promoter, Bob Arum, told him in Las Vegas that the bout would be in Parker’s home town of Auckland.
Both fighters will go into the showdown undefeated, with Parker’s record at 21-0 and Ruiz’s at 29-0. Source:
